Membership

Membership with SASMEE is available to anyone who is interested in trains, scale model railroading, engineering, gardening or being involved in the local community. SASMEE is a friendly club that welcomes new members.

How Can You Contribute?

The following are how you can be involved with SASMEE;

  • Public Operations – including station attendant or ticket seller
  • Train Operations – including train driver or guard
  • Club Administration – including project planning
  • Rolling Stock – construction and repairs to passenger cars and engines
  • Track Management – construction and repairs to the track
  • Grounds maintenance – weeding, tree planting, watering, pond maintenance

Public Operations

We need people to help operate the stations. This is a great introduction to our railway where you meet all your fellow members, as well as greet and assist the general public boarding and alighting from our trains. It is the place to liaise with the public, and where we seek to present our organisation in the best light.

Train Operations

Help operate and run the trains. This would either be on a club owned train or on a private members train.

Driving a train is a responsible and a fulfilling experience that you attain after an easy but regulated training regime. Then there is the ultimate and challenging opportunity to train and be a steam loco driver.

Rolling Stock

Our trains comprise of models of steam, diesel and electric locomotives owned by the club and by private members.

You can help in the workshop, or with the running of the trains. Helping repair and maintain the Rollingstock helps the railway operate. You could perform vital work and make a real difference in this area.

Track Management

Building and maintaining the track helps the railway keep on working and operating.

Meet the members

The grounds are open every Wednesday morning from around 9am to 1pm where members gather together for a working bee.
Most members bring their own lunch and gather around at the canteen to solve the worlds problems 🙂
